Jim's Alibi
About This Spot
At Jim’s Alibi, the moment you step through the door, you’re greeted by a sense of easygoing camaraderie that feels like a shared secret among longtime friends. This is a lively bar where the pace naturally ebbs and flows – afternoons are mellow with quiet conversations and a welcoming patio breeze, while evenings pulse with playful energy, spontaneous shenanigans, and the unmistakable hum of karaoke nights. It’s a spot where familiarity lingers in the air alongside the scent of well-loved wood and the clink of pool balls in the back.
The atmosphere here leans into a working man’s warmth, but it’s never stuffy or unapproachable. Regulars and newcomers alike find a place to unwind, whether perched at the bar chatting with the attentive bartenders, digging into a Bloody Mary crafted just right, or gathering with friends for a round of darts or horseshoes out back. The layered hum of conversations, laughter, and music feels authentic, like the soundtrack of a community unwinding after a hard day.
What sets Jim’s Alibi apart is how it balances the easy comfort of a neighborhood haunt with little bursts of playful moments—the kind of place where karaoke stretches into the night, voices rising in fun and encouragement, and where everyone knows a good happy hour is more than just a time slot, but a chance to come together. Here, the patio catches afternoon sunshine and keeps the vibe relaxed, making the bar an inviting refuge to both chill alone or celebrate with a group, as the bartenders’ genuine hospitality makes you feel part of the story.
Jim’s Alibi carries a true sense of place in Boise—a living room for anyone looking to experience a bar that’s refreshingly human. It’s not just about grabbing a drink; it’s about the moments shared and the subtle rhythms of a spot that’s seen decades of memories and keeps making more.

I love Jim's Alibi ! I've been going there since 1993. It's always been a working man's bar a lot of fun. Great entertainment. They have pool, darts, horseshoes out back A beautiful patio and they have the Idaho lottery gaming machines there which I play a lot of. And they got too happy hours 12 noon - 2 pm 4 pm - 6 pm Oh! Great place to chill by yourself or with friends. My favorite place to relax in Boise.

Stopped by on a “birthday bus” excursion for my husband’s 40th, which I’m sure could have been annoying when you suddenly get flooded with 16 people at once who are only having 1-2 drinks in a short period. But the two bartenders working were super accommodating and we appreciated them making it fun.

This place is a hidden gem. Love the beer options and karaoke. Always fun shenanigans happening to keep it entertaining. Tip: Karaoke starts at 9:30 not 8:30 like advertised.

The remodel has totally changed the look and feel here. If you're looking for a chill place to grab a drink, play some bar games, or hang out on a cool patio(summertime of course) this is your spot! The prices are good and the servers are friendly. Clean dive bars are always a good option!

I had to drop my dog off at the groomer across the street, and needed somewhere to hang out to while I waited. Decided to pop into Jim’s Alibi and was not disappointed. The bartender was super sweet, made delicious drinks, and let me use the wifi so I could do some work on my laptop while I was there. Fun place for an afternoon hang.
